How to Lose Lower Abdominal Fat – Do All the Crunches Really Help?

A lot of people want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat.

The most common thought on the subject is “I am going to do tons of lower ab exercises and hope that it works.” Want to know a little secret? Doing lots of lower abdominal exercises will do next to nothing to help you lose lower abdominal fat.

If you really want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat, you should understand a very important concept. It is called “spot reduction”.

Spot reduction is the myth that if you want to lose fat in a certain area, you do it by overworking the muscle right underneath it. For example, if someone wants to lose lower abdominal fat, the should do lots of lower ab exercises to get that result.

Spot reduction is just not possible! When you gain fat, it does not all go into one specific area. Instead, you gain fat in proportion all over your body. If you want to lose fat, it will happen in the same way.

Just like you cannot gain fat in a specific area of your body, you cannot lose it in one specific area either.

Read that one again! It is a very important concept for you to understand if you are really trying to lose lower abdominal fat.

The real answer is to lose all around body fat.

You can do this by a combination of good food choices, resistance training, and a specific type of cardio called interval training.

When you are doing the right combination of the above, you can easily lose fat. If you keep it up, you can lose fat permanently as well.

The main thing to remember is that you should not try to focus on just “one thing” to lose lower abdominal fat. That means don’t try to just do lots of lower abdominal exercises. Or, don’t try to just change your diet, or just try resistance training, or just do interval training.

You need to take a synergistic approach of the three things I mentioned above if you really want to know how to lose lower abdominal fat.

Once your body fat is lower enough, you can start to do lots of those abdominal exercises to develop some muscle definition. But, you are only going to get a low percentage of total body fat by doing the combination mentioned above.

So in conclusion, don’t try the traditional ways to lose lower abdominal fat. You need to put your body in a total fat burning state. If you do the right combination of good food choices, resistance training, and interval training, you will start to see yourself losing total body fat.

Remember to be persistent and work hard. You can be successful if you really want it bad enough =)
